Do you remember how it all started? – as a Russian famous song says… In January 2013, I was lucky enough to get on a yacht with 10 strangers. Alexey was a captain there. From this moment, my acquaintance with yachting began.
January holidays, Elba-Corsica – Capraya hike. I remember a voyage when I was on watch as well, our spinnaker broke and only thanks to Alexey’s serenity and professionalism, everything ended well. There were also other situations: a breakdown of the steering wheel at the Spain – France crossing, jellyfish and the search for a drowned medallion on the Lipari Islands…
However, the most important thing for me is that in all voyages I participate, Alexey should be the captain! The whole team feels comfortable and safe with him.
I understand that after crossing the Transatlantic, it is not so interesting to go along the coast of Italy… However, for me and my friends, it is a great success and joy when Alexey controls everything. Lyosha, thank you very much! Next year we will go to Capri-Amalfi)))

Recently, on Facebook, one person asked the community to help him with choosing a place to study for a YM Coastal – and preferably not in Middle-Earth. Typically, I never write my thoughts on this subject. People are all different and make decisions based on their own experience.
I must say right away that I studied at different yacht schools. Everyone has a standard program (IYT), they give out training materials, and then a marine practice starts.
Any way, approaches to learning are different. The first one can be formulated as “the client has paid the money, so he will definitely get his diploma”. It does not matter that he is a little (or a lot) short of necessary qualifications. Then he will finish his studies. Otherwise, he won’t come next time.
Alexey Trofimov has another approach. Competent, pleasant in communication, very friendly, he will ”chew over” everything, explain it as many times as necessary, always help everyone with a good sense of humor. Maybe because of this, people get the impression that “diplomas” are already in their pocket, so they don’t need to work hard during the courses. I must say that this feeling is completely wrong, and all the students will get a “surprise” very soon. It doesn’t matter that you were sitting in a restaurant or riding bikes in Holland together with him. When passing an exam, there are no discounts for anyone. Everything is very simple: you know and you are ready – he will congratulate you on your professional development. If not – then sorry. Typically, Alexey only checks your knowledge and skills – you pass the exam not to him, but to the sea. In addition, the sea doesn’t care how much you paid and what you didn’t have time to learn. As a result, you will kill yourself and destroy people.
I did not ask Mr. Trofimov if he thinks so, but I have such a perception of him. I think that this is correct. Moreover, yes, Alexey is principled. When I was with him, three people did not pass the exam, including my wife. Do you know what she said? She was willing to pass the exam to Alexey only. By the way, the other two students followed her and did the same. Maybe, the thing is that he is a good psychologist. This is very important for an instructor.
I need to give him an internship. In addition, I’m worried about it.

I was lucky enough to meet Alexey in the territorial waters of Croatia, at the EXECUTIVE MBA Club Business Regatta. It was about 2013, and since then I consider Alexey not just a sailing yacht instructor, but a Teacher spelled with a capital letter, passionate about the sea and sailing.
For me, he became an instructor and a reliable companion at sea. There is no such thing as a lot of sea, but we have traveled enough miles together with Alexey Trofimov in different seas and oceans. This experience is invaluable in all areas of a yachtsman: MPPSS, yacht design, navigation, meteorology, acceptance and delivery of charter yachts, organization of sailing races in accordance with the rules of the PGA.
Alexey does not stop there, but is constantly developing and passing on knowledge and good maritime practice to both “green” cadets and experienced skippers who want to constantly improve their skills.
If you ask me the question: “Would you like to create and implement a sailing project with somebody? I would answer in the affirmative, and only with Alexey Trofimov.

I would like to thank Alexey Trofimov as a captain, yacht instructor and a person. I studied and received a yacht license from him.
I have already received YM Coastal, passed the theory on YM Offshore. I like to go to sea with this man, and I like to learn from him, I like his optimism and determination. It’s a special thrill to get into difficult situations and learn to get out of them.
Alexey has a lot of experience, he feels the wind and knows how the weather will change. He is happy to teach people yachting skills. Alexey is patient and, as a teacher, humane. He allows students to make mistakes and gain experience, but never allows a catastrophe. I respect him for the fact that he does not ”sell diplomas”, because he knows that it can cost anyone his life. I am glad that I have studied and continue to study with this person.

Alexey Trofimov is my guide to the world of big yachting. Under his watchful supervision, in 2013 I received the first document of a bareboat skipper, and then an YM Coastal.
We came to know each other during a regatta on the French Riviera in 2012. I would like to note that Alexey is an honored yachting instructor. For so many years, without loosing his heart, he keeps the spark of teaching stupid students, because he loves his job very much.
Many people, having reached a high level, quickly go to work as hired captains, increase their status and fees, but no longer transfer their experience and knowledge to other students.
Alexey is not like that and, I hope, will mock his loving students for a long time.

We want to tell you a little about one wonderful instructor, Alexey Trofimov.
In December 2016, I took the theoretical Bareboat skipper course with Alexey. In the spring of 2017, under his strict guidance, I passed a practical course and received the right to participate in independent yacht trips.
Our practice took place in Holland, and in September my wife joined me. We successfully passed the course on International crew sail. Now, thanks to Alexey, we have a family in love with the sea, with sea travel.
Alexey has a distinctive feature, he is a man who lives by the sea, who is able to intelligibly and patiently transfer his knowledge and experience to everyone. In 2019, we tested our strength in Gibraltar. Thanks to Alexey’s efforts, I got a Yachtmaster coastal sail.
As a real mentor, Alexey always supports his students with his practical advice. In addition, he is a very good organizer. It is very exciting to be with him both in training campaigns and at regattas.
